ABOUT THE PROGRAM
THE SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR is designed to help
supply the sports junkie with a daily fix of sports
information. Each day of the year will bring you a new page
of believe-it-or-not trivia, a record, a quote, an anecdote
or even a joke from the world of sports. Some of the stuff
is old and some is new. Most of it is about baseball and
football, but there is also a significant amount of
basketball, hockey, golf, tennis, track and field, boxing,
horse racing, auto racing and more. And since the program
is called a calendar, the day, month and year are also
displayed.
Microsoft, MS-DOS and Windows are registered trademarks of
Microsoft Corporation.
IBM and PC-DOS are registered trademarks of International
Business Machines Corporation.
In this document, DOS refers to both MS-DOS and PC-DOS.
WHAT YOU NEED
o A personal computer running DOS version 2.0 or later.
o The four DESKTOP CALENDAR files:
- DCSPORT.EXE The desktop calendar executable program
- DCSPORT.DAT Data file used by the executable program
- DCSPORT.DOC This documentation
- DCSPORT.REG Registration form
SETTING UP
Make a backup copy of the four DESKTOP CALENDAR files.
Copy all four DESKTOP CALENDAR files to a single directory
on your computer. If you are using DOS version 3.0 or
later, it may be helpful to copy the files to a directory
described by the PATH environment variable. The PATH
environment variable tells DOS where to look for programs if
the requested program is not in the current directory. For
more information about the PATH environment variable,
consult your DOS manual.
2
You may find it convenient to add the DESKTOP CALENDAR
command, described below, to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file located
in the root directory of your boot disk. Doing so will
instruct your computer to run the program each time the
computer is turned on. To make changes to your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file, consult your DOS manual.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM
If you are using DOS version 3.0 or later, and the location
of the DESKTOP CALENDAR files is described in the PATH
environment variable, you can run the program by typing
DCSPORT at the DOS command prompt and pressing ENTER.
If you are using DOS version 3.0 or later, and the location
of the DESKTOP CALENDAR is NOT described in the PATH
environment variable, you must provide the path to the
DCSPORT command at the DOS command prompt.
If you are using a version of DOS prior to version 3.0, you
must set your current drive and directory to match that of
the location of the DESKTOP CALENDAR files. Then, type
DCSPORT and press ENTER.
When you run the program the OFFICIAL logo will appear,
followed by some information about the program, which is
followed by the calendar page.
OPTIONS
To display the calendar page without displaying the logo and
information screens, use the /Q option as follows
DCSPORT /Q
To display a calendar page for a day other than the current
day, use the /D option as follows:
DCSPORT /D:mm-dd-yy
where mm is the month, dd is the day and yy is the year of
the calendar page to be displayed.
to display a brief description of the DESKTOP CALENDAR
command and its options, use the /? option as follows:
DCSPORT /?
3
USING MICROSOFT WINDOWS
Although THE SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR is not a
Microsoft Windows program, the program can be run in a DOS
session within Windows:
o Start a DOS session;
o Type DCSPORT /Q at the command line and press ENTER; and
o Adjust the DOS session window so that it fits around the
calendar page and move the window to a corner of your
display where, if you wish, it can remain while you work
on other tasks.
A Windows version of THE SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR is
planned for the near future.
WHAT IS SHAREWARE?
Shareware is software that gives users the chance to use a
product before paying for it. If, after trying the program
out, you decide not to use it, do not pay for it. If you
continue to use the product, you should pay for it and will
benefit by doing so.
Copyright laws apply to shareware products as they do for
other commercial products, but shareware users are granted
some specific rights that are not normally given to users of
other commercial software. More specifically, you may make
copies of this product and give them to others as long as
all files are intact, unchanged and not part of another
system.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
other commercial authors, and the products are of comparable
quality. In both cases, there are good products and bad
ones. The main difference is the method of distribution.
Rather than running up enormous advertising expenses or
selling through retail channels, shareware reaches the
marketplace through computer users' natural affinity to copy
each others' software. And because the overhead for this
product is low, the price is low.
THE SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR is a shareware program
and is provided at no charge to the user for evaluation.
Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not
give it away altered or as part of another system. If you
find THE SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR useful and are
continuing to use it after a reasonable trial period, you
must make a registration payment of $8.95 to OFFICIAL
SOFTWARE. The $8.95 registration fee will license one copy
for use on any one computer at any one time.
4
REGISTRATION
Register your copy of the program by printing and filling
out the form in the DCSPORT.REG file, and sending the form

DISTRIBUTORS
Anyone distributing THE SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR for
any kind of remuneration must first receive authorization by

authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
recognized by the Association of Shareware Professionals
(ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware
distributors, and such distributors may begin offering THE
SPORTS TRIVIA DESKTOP CALENDAR immediately. However,
OFFICIAL SOFTWARE must still be advised so that the
distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest version.
